Tata Ace

the indian car review - tat ace

Tata Motors recently launched its new mini-truck the Tata Ace, powered by a twin-cylinder, 16bhp, 700cc IDI diesel engine (basically the Indica diesel engine split in half). The Ace, which Tata claims would provide fuel efficiency of 18-20km per litre, has a maximum payload capacity of 745kg and a stylish all-steel cabin, which provides some of the comforts of a regular car. With this model, the company hopes to create a totally new 'small commercial vehicle' category and has priced it at Rs 2.25 lakh (BS-II) and Rs 2.35 lakh (BS-III).

Yes I saw this vehicle on Avinashi Road in Coimbatore, near Peelamedu. It was a demo vehicle. Looks nice. Commercial success is a big?
One of my friend who runs a Mineral water distribution told that it cannot match the pricing of 3 wheelers from Tempo in the same load category. He may be right because he has three Tempo vehicles. Let's hope TATA will launch some variations in future.

Yep, I agree with your Mohan. I don't think it can match with Tempo, but what I've heard is that the TATAs are playing a totally different ballgame in here, trying to see how receptive the Indian middle class is to this luxurious pick up three wheeler. I also have a gut feeling that their Rs. 1 Lakh car will be more or similar to this chasis and body.... Lets wait and see
